Configure Security Policy

Lesson 31/32 | Study Time: 20 Min
Configure Security Policy

Scenario

In a Fortinet-powered network environment, the security administrator is tasked with applying deep packet inspection (DPI) to monitor and control user traffic. This is done using FortiGate Security Profiles, which allow granular inspection of traffic from the internal network to the internet. You’ll configure and apply Web Filtering, Antivirus, and Application Control profiles to enforce security policies and ensure safe browsing behavior.

Objectives

● Create and configure a Web Filter profile to block access to non-business or harmful websites

● Enable Antivirus scanning to inspect HTTP, SMTP, and FTP traffic for malware

● Set up Application Control to restrict or monitor usage of specific applications (e.g., social media, P2P, streaming)

● Apply the Security Profiles to a firewall policy that governs traffic from the Inside network to the Internet.

What You'll Learn

By completing this activity on a FortiGate firewall, you will:

● Understand how to use Fortinet Security Profiles for traffic inspection

● Learn to configure Web Filtering using category-based and static URL filters

● Enable Antivirus protection for real-time threat detection

● Use Application Control to manage application-level traffic visibility and restrictions

● Apply these profiles to firewall policies to enforce security across user traffic
